Maximum Mileage from Articles
Write once, use many...
In order to fully understand the value that a single article has,
you have to first understand what duplicate content is, and what the search engines care
about.
Search engines do NOT penalize duplicate ARTICLES. Think about it
logically - if they did, no article directory out there would have any pagerank at all, because they are
nothing BUT articles that you can bet the author has published in more than one place, besides the other
people who reprint them!
Search engines have no problem with duplicate articles, as long as
the entire site serves a purpose to provide something of value to the web - with an article directory, that
means the directory service. With your site, that means a topically organized source of information about
whatever subject you have chosen.
Search engines DO penalize duplicate SITES, and low quality sites
that add nothing of value to the informational content of the web. That is the purpose and intent behind the
warnings about duplicate content.
So, having said that, you may now feel free to use your article in
a variety of ways, which, if you have written something that is truly of value, will not only enrich you, but
will potentially enrich others also.
A single article can serve the following
purposes:
1. It can be used on a website as principle content, or in a blog,
where it can earn ad income.
2. It can be posted to article directories with your sig line, for
article marketing benefits (the absolute best free marketing tactic). Other people can then reprint it, and
your link goes out across the net.
3. It can be posted on forums for more article marketing
benefits.
4. You can bundle a group of related articles for a mini-course or
email series.
5. You can gather a grouping of related articles, and expand them
into a book.
6. You can expand a broad topic article into a series of detailed
sections, from which you can make either a book, or another entire site.
7. You can use it as content on more than one of your own sites,
if it is topically relevant, and as long as no more than a few articles between any two sites are identical.
As long as you have enough other original content, you can share content between sites if it is appropriate
to do so.
You don't need to rewrite it or fuss about changing it. Just send
it out there and get your name recognized.
You may find, that once written, an article will stand you in good
stead for years. I have found myself writing a book, and able to use an article I wrote several years ago as
an addition to the book - I just had to update it for current technology, and the chapter was
finished.
One article is worth more than most people think, and it is worth
writing it well, because if you expect it to represent you in more than one capacity, it had better be a good
representative!
So write well... and then use it freely.
